The Sin of Witchcraft

Witchcraft is referred to throughout the Bible and also throughout human history. It has a long association with people from all walks of life including people in high ranking positions.

The Old Testament refers often to the abominations of sorcery and magic which is witchcraft.  One such verse that comes to mind is Deuteronomy 18:10-12. “There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire, or who uses divination, or is a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer, Or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and it is because of these abominable practices that the Lord your God is driving them out before you.”

Witchcraft can include a vast range of items and practices. The following are considered to be witchcraft. Please note, the following list is not exhaustive.

Black magic, white magic, wizards, voodoo, warlocks, illusionists, astrology, occult, numerology, hypnosis, levitation, tarot cards, oracle cards, visualisation, mediums, Wiccans, tea leaf reading, psychics, clairvoyant, feng shui, idolatry, superstition, palmistry, acupuncture, rune stones, paganism, druidism, angel cards, transcendental meditation, astral projection, telekinesis,  casting spells, mixing potions, hexes, enchantments, charms, chanting, mantras,  incantations, curses, bewitchment, conjuring up the dead, calling up a spirit or devil, fortune-telling, divination, necromancy and reading auras.

Satan uses witchcraft to keep people in bondage. As long as you are involved in these practices, you will never get close to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. And you will certainly not be entering the gates of heaven to eternity.

Jesus wants to have a personal relationship with you. He wants you to know that He loves you and cares about you. He wants all His believing children to put Him and His commandments first place. By doing so, you will lead an abundant and rewarding blessed life.

Proverbs 19:7 explains “The righteous man walks in his integrity; (happy, fortunate, enviable) are his children after him.”

Jesus had compassion and kindness for everybody, he didn’t discriminate. He was honest though when he knew someone was in sin. He wasn’t afraid to tell people what they were doing was wrong. In doing so, He was risking His life. So Jesus was crucified because He was a quiet authority of His time.

An example of Jesus’ kindness was with the woman who committed adultery in John 8:1-11. Jesus told her she wasn’t condemned and that he loved her but He told her not to sin anymore.

We all have a choice, we can either follow Jesus and allow Him to lead us by example, or we can follow the way of the Enemy by involving ourselves in practices such as witchcraft that Jesus hates.

Why does Jesus hate witchcraft? Witchcraft offers empty promises and a shallow way of life. It offers no hope for eternity.

Revelation 22:15 “[But] without are the dogs and those who practice sorceries  (magic arts) and impurity [the lewd, adulterers] and the murderers and idolaters and everyone who loves and deals in falsehood (untruth, error, deception, cheating).”

Witchcraft is a lie from the Enemy. The Enemy ministers to people involved in witchcraft the same way that the Holy Spirit ministers to Christians.

As we are living in the last days, witchcraft is becoming more prevalent and more powerful. The Enemy is ramping up his attack on Christians and new believers.

Joel 2:28 “And afterward I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.”

Jesus is the son of God. If you are involved in witchcraft, you need to renounce it if you want to become born again.  Accepting Jesus is the son of God, is the way to eternal life.

Jesus came and said I am the Way the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me (John 14:6)
