Do Not Be Yoked With Unbelievers

There are many lukewarm Christians out there that have one foot in the world and the other foot in Christianity. They attend church each week but don’t apply the Word of God to their lives, even though they show up to church every Sunday. It seems living in today’s world, anything goes. And this is true for some people who call themselves Christians.

As a result of all this, it has been on my heart to talk about a specific scripture. The scripture I’m referring to is found in (2 Corinthians 6:14-15.) “ Do not be yoked with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?”

There are countless Christians today that are living in sin. What I am referring to are those Christians that are unmarried and living with their unbelieving spouse. These Christians show up to church every week and don’t batt an eyelid when it comes to the sin they are committing. They also don’t feel convicted that they are being sexually immoral.

1 Corinthians 5:11 clearly states that you must not even associate yourself with a brother or sister that is sexually immoral. This scripture goes on to say you shouldn’t even eat with them. This proves how much God hates sexual sin.

But why does God hate sexual sin the most above all other sins? The answer to this question is in (1 Corinthians 6:18-20.) “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.”

Your body is the living temple of Christ because Christ dwells in your body.  When you are sexually immoral, you are destroying the temple of God.

If the Lord wants me to remarry, it will only be with a believer that reads the Word and applies it to their daily life. How can an unbelieving spouse truly know you? They can’t.  They don’t have the Spirit of God living inside of them. This is just one reason our heavenly Father only wants us to be yoked with believers. It’s a command we all should be following.

So don’t just read the Word of God, apply it. If you are living in sexual sin, ask God to make a way out for you. We serve a faithful God, if we trust Him, He will provide.
