God loves family. He created one man and one woman to nurture, adore and protect the family unit.
When I was growing up, my family were everything to me. I grew up in a large family with lots of cousins and siblings. It was happy. I was happy.
God did not design a family to be torn apart by divorce or marital separation. When this occurs, the emotions and love that we once held for each other, is destroyed and dissolved.
All this leads me to divorce. Does God allow Divorce?
Malachi 2:16 says “For the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I hate divorce and marital separation and him who covers his garment [his wife] with violence. Therefore keep a watch upon your spirit [that it may be controlled by my Spirit], that you deal not treacherously and faithlessly [with your marriage mate].
God hates divorce but he allows it. This scripture speaks about Violence in particular. The Scripture is saying if you are violent towards your husband or wife, that’s grounds for divorce.
God did not design the family unit to be torn apart, however, due to our fallen nature, which began with the tree of good and evil, the family unit does break down.
Scripture has been mistranslated into leading us to believe that God doesn’t allow Divorce.
If we study Matthew 5:32 “But I tell you, Whoever dismisses and repudiates and divorces his wife, except on the grounds of unfaithfulness (sexual immorality), causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a woman who has been DIVORCED commits adultery.” [Deut. 24:1-4]
The word DIVORCED has been mistranslated in Matt. 5:32. We need to look at the Hebrew for this word. In Hebrew, the word DIVORCED is translated as PUTTING AWAY.
The Bible does not contradict. It’s the translators at the time of translating that have made the errors.
PUTTING AWAY means Separation in the Hebrew.
If God doesn’t allow DIVORCE. Why does Matthew 5:31 say “It has also been said, Whoever divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.” ?
Divorce wasn’t in God’s original plan, He didn’t design Divorce, Satan did. So why do so many Christians think Divorce is Evil?
The answer to this lies in years of church teaching. Churches teach their followers that Divorce is not God’s will for them. Church teaches that Divorce is bad and if you get Divorced you are an alien.
I’m Divorced. I’ve been Divorced once. But God never made me feel like I was unworthy of His love, never once.
So if God accepts Divorced Christians, why can’t the Church?
Change takes time. We’ve grown up to believe whatever Doctrine has been fed to us at the time.
The priority in today’s climate is that we LOVE each other and treat one another with kindness and compassion. If we can do that, we all have a brighter future. (Proverbs 16:7) “When a man’s ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.”
